SIR Code of Membership

The SIR Code of Membership is a series of rules that all members must follow:

  1. The SIR will have a leader and co-leader. Both are nominated/voted for every 6 months or when more than 50 percent of the members wants a leadership change. The co-leader replaces the leader temporarily in case the leader is away for a certain period of time, or in case the alliance wants to dismiss the leader.

  2. The SIR is a friendly alliance, meaning that attacks on other human-controlled ships are normally not allowed. However, any SIR member may attack their own personal enemies as well as any enemies of SIR. An enemy can be forgiven by the SIR if he apologizes/pays a tribute to his victim, appropriate for the damage he has done. Attacks on alien ships of all races are allowed anytime.

  3. Ships can become enemies of SIR by:

  4. Any SIR member may declare any non-SIR ship to be a personal enemy by announcing it publicly to SIR as well as the ship to be made an enemy. Any ship so designated may be attacked freely by the declaring SIR ship without regard to SIR enemy status. Personal enemy declarations do not normally require SIR approval, but any SIR member may call a vote for approval. If a vote is called, the declaration must be approved by a majority vote. Personal enemy status may be forgiven at any time by the declaring SIR ship.

  5. If a member acquires information, he is obliged to share the information with the entire alliance. The member who acquired the information is free to use, publish or sell it as he wants, without having to ask the alliance whether he's allowed to. If a member wants to sell or publish information gathered by another SIR member, he is obliged to ask the alliance/leader if he is allowed to do so.

  6. SIR members are free to post messages on the SST, however, publication of offending messages should be avoided or discussed within the alliance before publishing them (I think of the message one of us posted some turns ago regarding BSL)

  7. SIR members are allowed to denounce prophets only under one of the following conditions:
    1. They have the agreement of the prophet.
    2. They state in the SST that they will (try to) repay the favour later in the game.
    3. The prophet has provoked the SIR.
    4. The denounce is specifically aimed at ousting the prophet.

  8. The SIR Code may be changed by a vote from SIR. Any proposed change must be posted for discussion in its final wording for at least one week before it is voted upon. When the vote is called, votes will be collected for a period of one week. Failure to vote is considered a "no" vote, not an abstention. The change will be made if approved by at least 2/3 of SIR members less abstentions, rounding up. For example, if there are 18 SIR members and 4 abstain from a particular vote, then 10 "yes" votes are required to approve the change.
